GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The  Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, part of Curio - A Collection by Hilton, was named as a  Smart Stars Award winner by Smart Meetings magazine, a leading publication targeted to meeting and event planners across the nation. The hotel's Ambassador Ballroom won in the "best ballroom" category.

The award, now in its fifth year, celebrates the most popular hotel properties, resorts, cruise lines, convention and conference centers across North America. The Smart Stars Awards are selected by meeting professionals who nominate and vote for spaces where they have hosted events over the year. Over 65,000 meeting planners have the opportunity to vote.

"It is an honor to be recognized by the Smart Stars Awards by Smart Meetings magazine and meeting planners for the third consecutive year," says Mike Donnelly, general manager of the Amway Grand Plaza. "It proves that our expansive meeting spaces and quality service are what planners are looking for when booking events."

Host to some of the most noteworthy events in the state, the Ambassador Ballroom is the largest ballroom in the hotel with room for up to 1,000 attendees. The ballroom was renovated in 2013, adding new LED, multi-color lighting, chandeliers and cove lights with state-of-the-art control systems, allowing for multi-level lighting control, capable of meeting requirements for any event type. The Ambassador Ballroom is flanked by three separate pre-function areas, allowing simultaneous or multiple events.

Originally opened in 1913 as The Pantlind, the hotel is honored to now be recognized as a Historical Hotel of America. As National Trust for Historic Preservation, Historic Hotels of America recognizes hotels for faithfully maintaining their authenticity, sense of place and architectural integrity. Its distinguished history paved the way for the new Amway Grand Plaza, which reopened in 1981 with 623 guestrooms.

Today, the hotel is connected to the DeVos Place Convention Center and located across the street from the Downtown Courtyard by Marriott in Grand Rapids and the JW Marriott Grand Rapids, allowing even more space for large citywide meetings and events.

Smart Stars winners will be featured in the June edition of Smart Meetings print and digital magazine.
